STOL Aerodrome / Airfield

All STOL (Short Take-Off Landing) Aerodrome / Airfield are to accommodate small fixed wing and helicopter aircraft.

An Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) was created for use at these STOL Aerodrome / Airfield where traffic density did not justify the implementation of a full Aerodrome Air Traffic Control unit.

Only Lawas and Marudi are manned by Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia and the rest under the Malaysia Airport Berhad. Except for Tanjung Manis Aerodrome, which is owned and operated by Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).

The STOL Aerodrome / Airfield were built to accommodate the needs of passengers and travelers in these remote areas and provide them with a lifeline to other neighboring towns.
