STOL Aerodromes / Airfields

All STOLs (Short Take-Off / Landing) aerodromes / airfields are built to accomodate small fixed wing and helicopter operations of the rural air services.

Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) is provided at STOL aerodromes / airfields where traffic density does not justify the implementation of a fully Aerodrome Control Unit.

Rural air services provide means for travellers into the remote interior of Sarawak and also lifeline for the local populations to other neighbouring towns.

Only Lawas and Marudi are manned by Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia and the rest under the Malaysia Airport Berhad. Except for Tanjung Manis Aerodrome, which is owned and operated by Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).

The STOL Aerodrome / Airfield were built to accommodate the needs of passengers and travelers in these remote areas and provide them with a lifeline to other neighboring towns.
